The 2023 is only a few weeks away and many people are already considering how they can be different this coming year. Many people decided that this next year will be their best year and decide to diet and exercise. Others begin their self discovery journey with meditation and journaling. However the truth is that research teaches us that by March all the well intentioned goals we set in January have not been met.
When working with my clients I always ask them what is motivating their goals. This is important because if we are not setting a goal that we actually want or believe in then we wont stick to it. Many of us do things for the wrong reasons. Often times the idea of dieting and exercise comes from the social belief that we should be a certain size or shape and if we don't measure up to the social standards then we are unworthy. However we really don't want it for ourselves but to appeal to others. Other individuals decide to journal daily to help them with their emotions and to find peace but guess what journaling does not work for everyone.
We are individuals and as such we have to have individualized plans. We create the life that fits who we are and what we believe. So for me that is peace. My childhood and early adulthood has been plagued by trauma and chaos so much so that when I had a hair sample tested I was told I had high levels of cortisol. Now that i'm older and hopefully wiser my desire is to live a life that's more peaceful than it has been. So all my other choices come from that mindset.
I have worked too hard to have peace in my life to allow anyone to take that from me. Meaning if I meet someone and they ensue chaos I will make sure to create boundaries that will keep me from that chaos. I will create boundaries at work where I am not giving all my time to my career causing me stress and burn out. Life is all about balance and things can be achieved if our intentions are rooted in our genuine beliefs and nature.
