Right now Wednesday is the most watched show on Netflix right now but I I have always been a Addams family fan. I love the series because this family has always been odd but they never cared what others thought about them. The theme song to the series says it all "They're creepy and they're Kooky, mysterious and spooky. They're all together ooky The Addams Family."
Now in the series Tim Burton does a great job of continuing with the concept that Wednesday is witty, direct, no nonsense and quite frankly unable to read social cues. The school she attends is dumbed the school for outcast and every one else is called a normie. This idea that being different is celebrated out in public is refreshing. I consider myself a self proclaimed outcast who has felt that the world has not always embraced and often question if who I am is too much for the world to handle.
However this series creates space for people who are different and "Kooky" by societies standard to be represented and feel that there is room for them in this world. (Again Thank You Tim Burton for all your movies). My hope is that these movies and shows will help each person live their truth. There is nothing better than knowing who you are and find or creating a safe space where you can be that person. Its liberating! It is difficult keeping up appearances and wondering who you have to be to be accepted. To constantly question your actions and how will be viewed by others, but when you let go and return to the original you, Wow, what liberation.
