" TO BE BEAUTIFUL MEANS TO BE YOURSELF YOU DON'T NEED TO BE ACCEPTED BY OTHERS. YOU NEED TO ACCEPT YOURSELF." -unknown
Hi yall. My name is Michelle Bundrum and like the video says I am a Latinx Licensed Clinical Social Worker. But what does that mean exactly. I was trained in a social systems perspective approach to mental health. As a social worker we can hold many hats including advocate, evaluator, Human Resources, or educator among other. When you have a session with me it generally begins by taking you what brings you to counseling and what you want to gain from your time in therapy. Then I tell you about myself and my method of practicing therapy.
I am a self proclaimed nerd so I inform my client that our sessions are a partnership. They are the captain and I am the first mate. They are Han Solo and I am Chewbacca so I am the fuzzy guy in the back that makes some noise and provides feedback. I go through confidentiality and that whatever is shared between us stays in the session as long as there isn't any safety concerns.
I want my client's to begin to feel comfortable because my sessions tend to be very unconventional and should feel like a conversation. I believe that relationships are what brings us into therapy in one way or another, people hurt people. So my goal as a clinician is to allow the therapeutic relationship to model what a healthy relationship looks like and in itself help my client's heal. This is even more important when working with clients who have experienced trauma.
So if you are ready to take the next step and this process sounds like something that you would feel comfortable being a part of reach out to us and we'd love to talk deeper about how we can help you.
